What
the Studio B Author Agency Does for You
We Create a
Career Plan Just For You
Because
working smarter means something different for each book author, we'll customize
our relationship with you to help you achieve the next level in your career. For
best-selling authors like:
David
Pogue,
who's a New York Times Columnist and
guest technology correspondent on CBS, it meant helping him launch a new
imprint where he could manage the editorial and production process while
building his own publishing company.
Deke
McClelland,
who's internationally known as a Photoshop and Illustrator expert, it meant
helping him launch a McClelland-branded book series and working with him to
expand into videotapes.
Lynda
Weinman,
who's known as the leading trainer in the digital arts, it meant helping her
launch her own imprint and an active videotape publishing and training business
at Lynda.com.
In
our studio, we'll work to develop career strategies that all have the goal
of helping you realize your full potential. By working with you to carefully
select projects, finding just the right partners, considering the best timing,
and crafting brilliant ideas, you'll be able to take maximum control of your own
future. As specialists, we have
little problem getting substantially better compensation for our clients. In
short, the Studio B Author Agency pays for itself, and our loyal client base
proves this. When you become a Studio B client, we fight every step of the way
to help you realize your dreams and help you become as successful as possible.
We
Take Your Career to the Next Level
Building
a lucrative and fulfilling career takes careful planning and hard work. We'll
work with you to identify your interests and strengths, look at where the market
is heading, and help you put together a plan that will enable you to achieve as
much as possible. In short, we focus on the business side of your career, so you
can focus on the creative side.
In
our experience, specialization in a particular topic or market area is extremely
important because it allows you to better leverage your knowledge. The Studio B
team is very well-suited to help you profitably leverage your expertise because
we have agents specializing in every market. After you've established your
reputation in a particular area, our team of agents will sell your
knowledge.
By
providing a wide range of focused and appropriate book opportunities for you,
we'll empower you to choose only the projects that will make the most sense in
the context of your career plan. Lots of options make it possible for you to
make the necessary changes in your career, and to only settle for the
opportunities you're excited about pursuing.
1. Creation
of a personal branding strategy.
We develop a plan to help you establish and expand your personal brand and
reputation.
2. Relationship
management.
By helping you to better manage your existing relationships to make them more
profitable, and to develop new relationships for you, we'll help you to
gradually and prudently emphasize the relationships that are moving you towards
your goals.
3. Long-range
planning.
Taking your career to the next level is a long process. By thinking long-term,
and by adjusting short-term objectives, we'll help you keep the focus you need
to build your reputation, your income, and creative freedom in the areas you
choose.
We
customize our relationship with you to add the most value. If you're a
technology expert with just a few writing credits, we'll probably place more
focus on selling your ideas and helping you establish your career. However, if
you're a well-established author who companies frequently approach, we'll
spend more time negotiating deals and leveraging your personal brand.
We
Market and Sell Your Services
Our
team of agents will do everything within our power to get your books published,
as well as lining up magazine articles, training, and speaking opportunities.
Most importantly, given our web presence and reputation, we are often in a
position to bring pre-sold projects to you. Studio B:
1. Creates
a selling strategy for your ideas.
After evaluating the marketability of your ideas and offering experience-based
advice, we develop a plan to sell your books to the best possible publisher.
2. Submits
proposals only to appropriate publishers.
We only match your proposals up with the best companies for your ideas. We help
you avoid relationships that might not work out and instead focus on the
companies where we can help ensure that you enjoy a positive experience.
3. Makes
sure your proposals are considered.
Because of our market knowledge, reputation, and rapport with publishers, we
ensure that your proposals are taken seriously. Even if your proposal doesn't
fit with a particular publishing company, we often uncover additional
opportunities that might be of interest.
We
Negotiate Great Deals
We
strive to get you the best deal possible. Since we've negotiated thousands of
contracts, we can make sure that you're being compensated appropriately and that
you're getting everything you deserve. While market knowledge and negotiating
skills are important, we know that you'll be in the best negotiating position if
you can feel comfortable walking away from a deal that doesn't match your needs.
Since we're constantly working hard to find new opportunities for you, you will
have the freedom to say 'no.' Given our reputation, publishers know when they're
dealing with Studio B that if the terms aren't appropriate, we'll happily find
another company that will offer appropriate terms. With our reputation and
credibility, coupled with the comfort of knowing you have options, we'll deliver
the terms you need.
Studio
B:

payment terms and structure.
We attempt to maximize your rates and work to make sure the payment milestones
meet your financial needs.
2. Analyzes
your contract and requests special clauses or modifications.
We make every effort to make contracts more reasonable and balanced, and strive
to protect your interests every step of the way. We also ensure that unique
aspects of your projects are addressed in your agreements.
3. Ensures
a successful project.
By making sure that everyone understands the contract and the customer's
expectations, we help to prevent problems before they happen.
You'll Have the Support of a
Team
We
like to work with our authors throughout the writing process. Studio B:

We want your projects to get off to the right start. We work to make sure that
you understand the customer's processes and that you have all the information

misunderstandings occur. We serve as your advocate to make sure a fair and
reasonable solution can be found.

We work with our authors to ensure that projects are progressing smoothly and in
a timely fashion.
4. Verifies
and ensures prompt and accurate royalty payments.

royalty statements for accuracy. Once we receive payment, we turn it around
within five business days.
5. Handles
correspondence.
We keep records and send copies of correspondence and notes of
conversations, and handle mail sent to the agent on the author's behalf. You'll
be copied on everything that pertains to you.
6. Offers
troubleshooting advice and solutions. When
problems come up, we'll work with you to solve them. We want our customers to be
happy working with Studio B authors. If you're having difficulty completing a
